A diver silhouetted beside a whale shark in the blue off Oslob, Cebu

Far-south Cebu · Diving from our gate

Where Cebu ends, the ocean begins.

Fifteen minutes from your room, the largest fish in the sea moves through the dawn light. A fifty-year-old marine sanctuary lies minutes off the beach. The legendary sardine tornado is a coastal drive up the coast. One beautiful base, the whole bucket list.

The secret of the south

Few dive addresses on Earth can promise the largest fish in the ocean — and have you home before your coffee cools.

We sit on the very toe of Cebu, where the Tañon Strait pours down to meet the Bohol Sea — a current-carved corner where the planet’s most reliable whale-shark encounter is a pre-breakfast errand. We do it quietly, at the right hour, the right way. Arrive a guest. Leave a diver.

The G Boutique dive map

Everything within reach of one base.

The whale shark, the sardine tornado, the turtle gardens, a flying wall drift and a fifty-year-old sanctuary reef — a checklist most divers spend a career assembling, here in one stay. Told honestly, distances and all: no Cebu-City logistics, no pre-dawn van slogs.

Whale Sharks at Dawn, OslobAt the door

Whale Sharks at Dawn

~15-20 min by road

Oslob

The world's only near-guaranteed, year-round wild whale-shark encounter is the neighbouring municipality up the coast. We send you at first light — golden water, fewer boats. Snorkellers get the iconic overhead view; certified divers descend the slope and meet them eye-to-eye.

Snorkel or scuba · all levels

Sumilon Island, off OslobAt the door

Sumilon Island

~1 hr door-to-reef

off Oslob

The Philippines' first-ever marine protected area (1974). Fin along Nikki's Wall — a vertical drop draped in giant gorgonian fans — then surface onto a powder-white shifting sandbar in ankle-deep turquoise for your interval.

Wall + reef dives · all levels

Apo Island, Negros crossingA short crossing

Apo Island

Half-day each way

Negros crossing

The birthplace of modern Philippine marine conservation — a no-take sanctuary since 1982, home to 650+ fish species and resident green and hawksbill turtles grazing in 2-5 m. Coconut Point is one of the region's great drift dives.

Drift + turtle gardens · certified & snorkel

Moalboal & Pescador, west coastA day-trip

Moalboal & Pescador

~1-1.5 hrs by car

west coast

The sardine tornado — millions of fish in a slow-rotating silver vortex — lives here permanently, 15-20 m off Panagsama. Add Pescador's Cathedral, a sunlit vertical chimney, plus resident turtles and frogfish.

Liloan Drift & House Reef

At the door

off the beach

Santander's own water — no excursion required. When the tide turns just outside the cove, the reef starts moving past you in an effortless flying drift; the same site offers a calm check-out dive on the same morning.

Tañon Strait, off the doorstepAt the door

Tañon Strait

Dawn cruise

off the doorstep

The Philippines' largest marine protected area and a haven of fourteen cetacean species. Our non-diving flagship: glass-calm dawn water, coffee on deck, and a chance of spinner dolphins across the bow.

Dolphin cruise · non-divers welcome

An honest line for the seasoned diver: Cebu’s famous Malapascua thresher sharks live at the opposite, far-northern tip of the island — a dedicated fly-in trip, not a Santander excursion. We’ll never pretend otherwise.

The Living Sea

What swims beneath our boat.

From the bus-sized whale sharks of Oslob to the neon sea slugs of the black-sand muck, the waters off south Cebu hold one of the richest casts of marine life in the Philippines. Every creature here is one our divers and snorkellers genuinely meet at our own sites — no aquarium glass between you.

MandarinfishSeasonal

Mandarinfish

A jewel-bright, psychedelically swirled little fish that hides in branching coral by day and emerges only at dusk to perform a brief mating rise in pairs. Tiny, shy and dazzling — a bucket-list twilight dive.

Nudibranchs (sea slugs)Resident

Nudibranchs (sea slugs)

The jewels of the reef — thumbnail-sized sea slugs in outrageous neon colours and frills, endlessly varied from flamboyant Spanish dancers to tiny chromodorids. Dauin's black sand is one of the world's great nudibranch grounds, and the bread-and-butter of macro photography here.

Clownfish / AnemonefishResident

Clownfish / Anemonefish

The real-life 'Nemo' — a small orange-and-white fish that lives unharmed inside the stinging tentacles of a host anemone, darting out to scold any diver who comes too close. They never stray more than a metre from home, so the same feisty family always guards the same anemone.

Giant frogfishCommon

Giant frogfish

A lumpy, sponge-mimicking ambush predator that 'walks' on hand-like fins and dangles a tiny built-in fishing lure to draw prey within gulping range. It sits motionless for days, so once your guide finds one it is yours to photograph at leisure — the trophy of every reef and muck dive.

Peacock mantis shrimpCommon

Peacock mantis shrimp

A psychedelic crustacean with club-arms that strike faster than anything in the sea — fast enough to crack a clam — and eyes that see colours we can only imagine. A muck-diving showpiece.

Day octopusCommon

Day octopus

Kugita

A shape-shifting genius that flushes colour and texture across its skin in a heartbeat, then pours its whole body into a crack in the coral. The reef's master of disguise.

SeahorseSeasonal

Seahorse

Kabayong-dagat

A tiny upright wonder that wraps its prehensile tail around a coral branch and sways with the surge. Shy, perfectly camouflaged, and the muck-diver's most beloved find.

LionfishCommon

Lionfish

A flamboyant predator that drifts the reef trailing venomous spines like a feathered ballgown. Beautiful and unbothered — admired, always, from a respectful distance.

Wild animals on the fish’s terms — sightings are typical, never promised, and that’s the magic. Frequencies are our honest read of each site.

Diving with a conscience

Witnessing, not consuming.

The Oslob whale-shark encounter is provisioning-based — fed by local fishermen, which is what makes it so reliable, and which genuine conservationists question. We don’t hide that. We own the highest end of conduct within it: mandatory distance, no touching ever, no sunscreen in the water, no flash, no chasing. We go at dawn precisely to avoid the chaos that causes most harm, and we brief the science before you enter the water.

And where you want the wild, unfed bucket list, we have it in abundance — Moalboal’s sardines, Apo and Sumilon’s turtles and walls, Tañon’s dolphins — all on the fish’s terms. Your park fees fund the very protection you came to witness.
