Getting here · Cebu City to the south
Cebu City to Oslob: pick the way that suits your day.
There are three sensible ways down Cebu's south road: a public bus, a private car or van with a driver, or driving yourself. Here is how each one really works, how long to plan for, and what the last stretch to Santander looks like.
The short version
One long coast road, and the clock matters more than the kilometres.
Oslob sits at the far south of Cebu, and the road from Cebu City runs mostly along the coast through Carcar, Argao, Dalaguete and Boljoon. Guides usually put the trip at around three and a half to four hours, and longer by bus or in heavy traffic. Metro Cebu traffic on the way out is the main variable, so the best decision is not which vehicle, but when you leave. Everything below is a guide, not a timetable.

Private car or van
Door to door, usually a little quicker than the bus, arranged in advance

Your options
Bus, private transfer or your own wheels.
Public bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal
Buses to Oslob leave from the Cebu South Bus Terminal. Ceres Liner is listed on the route, with air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses, and guides describe departures as frequent, roughly hourly, with no fixed timetable. Tickets are usually bought at the terminal or on board, in cash, rather than online ahead of time. Plan for around four hours, and for as much as five to seven if traffic or stops pile up. Tell the conductor where you are going and ask which stop is closest, because the bus can set you down at several points along Oslob's main road.
Private car or van with a driver
A pre-booked car or van is the comfortable choice for families, groups or anyone with luggage. Guides usually quote around three to three and a half hours without heavy traffic, and the driver can stop for food or photos on the way. You choose the hour you leave, which matters more than anything else on this route. G Boutique can arrange a private car, van or group transfer from Cebu City or the airport on request, quoted separately.
Driving yourself
The route is simple: a coastal highway south through Minglanilla, Carcar, Argao, Dalaguete and Boljoon, with signs to Oslob. Guides advise leaving before the Cebu City rush, driving in daylight, filling up early, and downloading offline maps because signage is not always clear. Expect curves, motorbikes and tricycles in the small towns. Foreign visitors should check licence rules before renting. There is parking at the resort gate.
From Mactan–Cebu airport
From Mactan you cross one of the two bridges into Cebu City and join the same south road, so budget the full journey on top of your landing and baggage time. A private transfer with a driver meeting you at arrivals is the simplest. If you land late, it can be kinder to sleep near the airport or in the city and start fresh the next morning. We arrange airport pick-ups on request.
Before you go
A few practical points.
- Carry cash for bus tickets and small purchases along the way.
- Bring water and a snack. Buses may have a toilet, but they do not make regular breaks.
- Download your map offline so you do not rely on mobile signal.
- If you drive, start with a full tank. There are several fuel stations along the way.
Planning notes
- For a same-day whale shark morning, leave Cebu City very early or sleep in the south the night before.
- Do not plan a tight connection, such as a flight or a ferry, on the same day as the drive.
- Bus timings, operators and stops can change, so confirm locally on the day.
On the road
What to expect, and where to stop.
The slowest part of the day is leaving Cebu City. Guides recommend avoiding the morning and evening rush, and one traveller reported very long bus waits after the big Sinulog weekend in January, so festival periods deserve extra buffer. Once you are past the Metro Cebu towns, the road opens up and follows the sea.
If you have time, the route is nice for a stop or two. Carcar is known for its public market and lechon, and the church at Boljoon is a historic landmark on the way. Do not plan too many stops if you want to reach Oslob in the morning for the whale sharks, which are a morning activity.
Arriving
The last stretch to Santander.
Santander is the southern tip of Cebu, a short drive beyond Oslob. If you take a bus, ask the conductor whether it continues south, or get off in Oslob and tell us when you expect to arrive. We arrange pick-ups and onward transfers on request, quoted separately. There is no scheduled shuttle.
G Boutique Resort has 10 cabanas and The Beach Villa, which sleeps up to 25 guests, on the Santander shore, around 15 minutes from the Oslob whale sharks. G Bistro on site is open daily from 7 AM to 11 PM, with the kitchen until 9 PM, so a late arrival can still end with dinner. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is at 11:00.
