The G Boutique beachfront in Santander, with the Tañon Strait and Negros beyond

Far-south Cebu · Destination guide

Santander, where Cebu ends.

The southernmost town of Cebu, on the Tañon Strait, looking out to Negros, Siquijor and Apo. The closest beach to the Oslob whale sharks, and the natural pivot between Cebu and Negros.

The town at the toe of Cebu

A quiet fishing and ferry town that happens to sit on the best stretch of beach in the far south.

Santander is where the Cebu island road finally meets the sea at its southernmost point, opening onto the Tañon Strait and the Bohol Sea. Negros lies across the water, Siquijor glows on the horizon at sunset, and Apo Island guards the strait beyond. It is the closest beach to the Oslob whale sharks and the port for the Liloan to Sibulan ferry to Dumaguete, which makes it the natural base for a South Cebu trip and the easiest pivot between two islands.

Things to do from Santander

The whole south, from one beach.

Santander is small, but every headline South Cebu experience is a short drive or boat ride away. These are the ones we send guests to most.

Whale sharks at dawn

Roughly fifteen minutes up the coast to the Oslob interaction. Go at first light for calmer water and smaller crowds; in-house guests at G Boutique use the complimentary shuttle.

Tumalog Falls

A misted curtain of water through the trees past Oslob, loveliest in soft morning light after the whale-shark run. About twenty-five minutes from Santander.

Sumilon sandbar

A shifting ribbon of white sand off Sumilon Island, reached by a gentle boat ride across the strait. Snorkelling over a protected reef nearby.

Apo Island turtles

A day trip across the strait to one of the Philippines' oldest marine sanctuaries: coral gardens, drift walls and sea turtles moving through the blue.

Kawasan canyoneering

The Kawasan circuit near Badian, up the west coast: turquoise pools, swims, jumps and a full-day adventure arranged around an early breakfast.

Moalboal sardine run

A living silver river of millions of fish churning just off the shore, one of the south's great underwater spectacles, reachable as a day trip.

Getting here & the crossing

Two airports, one ferry, two islands.

From Mactan–Cebu International (CEB)

Around three to four hours south by car. Many guests break the journey with an overnight at G Boutique and reach the whale sharks fresh at dawn. A private airport transfer can be arranged.

From Dumaguete / Sibulan Airport (DGT)

Fly into Negros, then take the Sibulan to Liloan (Santander) ferry across the strait. G Boutique sits right at the crossing, the shorter way to our shore.

The ferry to and from Negros

The Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan ferry runs regularly across the Tañon Strait. From the port it is a short hop to Dumaguete, Siquijor and Apo Island, making Santander a natural two-island pivot.

Where to eat

G Bistro, on the sea.

The beachfront cafe, food and bar at G Boutique Resort, G Bistro is open daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with the kitchen serving until 9:00 PM. It is the most reliable seafront table in Santander, equally good for a dawn coffee before the whale sharks or a long dinner as the lights of Negros come on across the strait.
